Shaft sinking works
Crick Road, Caldicot
A 4.5m-diameter, 7m-deep pumping-station shaft at the Lovell Homes site for client Churngold.
For client Churngold, DAACE was asked to install a 4.5m-diameter shaft, 7m deep, as part of the pumping station at the Lovell Homes site in Caldicot.
After studying the ground information and visiting the site, the team decided to construct a caisson shaft. Because rock was present, the ground was pre-augered to the full depth of the shaft. Pre-augering allowed the shaft to be excavated from the top, removed the need for breakers and reduced the need for personnel to enter the shaft.
Following augering and collar construction, the shaft was excavated and jacked down to depth, and the works were completed ahead of programme.
